Pearland ISD earns top scores

Pearland Independent School District was given a five-star rating for strongest academic progress and lowest spending by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts in its Financial Allocation Study for Texas.

The comptroller also awarded the school district with the Texas Honors Circle District Award for responsible financial management in preparing students for colleges and careers.

Pearland ISD was one of 46 districts, out of 1,000 statewide, selected for the five-star rating, according to a news release. This is the district's second consecutive year earning this award.

The five-star rating is based on the district's success in combining cost-effective spending with student progress.

According to the report, Pearland achieved an 87 percent passing rate on all Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills tests. The state average is 77 percent.

"We strive to provide students the best education possible while being a good steward of taxpayer dollars," said John Kelly, Pearland ISD superintendent, in the release. "We are proud of our staff for producing outstanding results in these very challenging economic times."
