Brazoria County ranked 8th in growth

The 2011 Texas Retail Survey has listed Brazoria County as eighth in retail market growth among Texas counties.

The results are based on performance rankings and analysis for each local retail market in the state of Texas to determine short-term and long-term growth rates.

The following counties are ranked by retail sales based on a five-year annual average from 2005 to 2010.

First is Johnson with 9.3 percent growth.
Second is Comal with 8.5 percent growth.
Third is Bastrop with 7.3 percent growth.
Fourth is Fort Bend with 6.7 percent growth.
Fifth is Rockwall with 6.4 percent growth.
Sixth is Hays with 6.3 percent growth.
Seventh is Montgomery with 5.4 percent growth.
Eighth is Brazoria with 5.4 percent growth.
Ninth is Williamson with 5.1 percent growth.
Tenth is Ector with 5.1 percent growth.

The largest 50 counties in Texas represent more than $211 billion in annual retail sales and about 87 percent of Texas' total annual retail sales.

Twenty-seven of the largest 50 counties had an annual growth in sales that exceeded the statewide average of 2.4 percent.

Only two of the largest 50 counties experienced negative growth within the five-year period.
